The Great Glen traverses the Highlands of Scotland from the North Sea to the Atlantic Coast passing through glorious scenery between Inverness and Fort William. The walk follows the route of the Caledonian Canal, a ship canal built in the early 19th century which links east and west coasts via large inland lochs including Loch Ness. It is a waterway with a beauty and interest unparalleled in Britain.

Your home for the six nights is a 126 foot long converted 1930's Belgian barge with a working history of carrying cargo on the big continental rivers. Each cabin has two full size berths with reading lights, stowage lockers, and a hand basin. Cabins are occupied on a twin/share basis. If you are travelling alone, we will arrange for you to share with someone of the same sex. There is even a laundry/drying room, central heating and showers. After dinner you can relax in the saloon, take a drink on deck or maybe a trip ashore to sample the local hospitality! Maximum group size is 12 and there is a qualified instructor on board to lead the activities.

The emphasis is on the walking but there are interesting villages and castles to visit and you will have a chance to try mountain biking, canoeing on quiet canals and rivers, windsurfing or sailing. All equipment is supplied. You are of course free to take a day out to sit on the deck and watch the scenery go by.
