Guided Trips by Grading
You need to be reasonably fit to achieve maximum enjoyment from a walking
holiday. Our trips are graded so that you can choose the grade most suited to
your level of fitness and previous walking experience. You need to carry
only a light daypack, as you will be returning to your accommodation each
evening.
Moderate The emphasis is on a leisurely
pace with time to observe and interpret the area, its history and wildlife. We
usually spend 5 to 6 hours walking up to 8 - 10 miles (12 - 16 km). Gradients
are generally easy and much of the walking is on paths, although these can be
rough in places. Basic fitness is required.
Intermediate A mixture of mountain
walks with 1500 to 3000 feet (450-900 m) of ascent and long low-level walks of
up to 15 miles (24 km). We will walk for 6 to 7 hours a day at a steady pace but
with plenty of view stops. There are few paths and the way is often over rough
ground. Requires good fitness, previous hill walking experience is an
advantage.
Strenuous We climb Munros and
Corbetts with 3000 to 5000 feet (900-1500 m) of ascent per day. On some days we
will be walking for more than 8 hours. Steep ascents and descents, exposed
ground and some scrambling may be involved. You need to be very fit and must
have a good head for heights. Regular mountain walking experience, preferably in
Scotland, is a must for full enjoyment.
We like to keep our itineraries as flexible as possible. Our trips have a
general walking programme; each day's walk will be carefully chosen by your
guide and will depend upon weather conditions, group fitness, group interests
and deer stalking restrictions. Our guides know the walking areas extremely
well and we can assure you that they will get the very best out of the
holiday. They all have a minimum qualification of the Scottish Mountain
Leader Training Board summer award and a first aid certificate.
