Meet the NWF Team
Ben Lowe Ben has been guiding for North-West Frontiers for over twelve years and leads mainly our Strenuous grade walking holidays. His knowledge of the Scottish Hills is second to none. Clients love his stories and jokes and you might be lucky to hear him play one of the famous Scottish tunes on his violin. He loves the Scottish mountains and, when not leading for North-West Frontiers, is usually to be found exploring far-flung corners of the Highlands or goes climbing in the Alps. His favourite areas to lead are Mull, Torridon and Knoydart.
Angela Gillespie Angela has been mountain guiding for many years, for much of that time she has lived in Ullapool. An experienced summer & winter mountaineer she has climbed and skied in the Alps, North-America and Greenland. Angela has a profound knowledge of the flora and fauna of the areas in which she guides and can also provide an insight into the Highland life both past and present. Her favourite places to guide include the Outer Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland.
Iain Thow Iain has almost twenty years experience of guiding. He has a M.Sc. in Environmental Planning and an honours degree in Geography. He is particularly interested in the landscape and the way it has evolved over time. Iain completed his Munros (Scottish mountains over 3000 feet) in 1984 and has climbed and hiked all over the world. Notable ascents are the Matterhorn, Mount Cook and Mount Tasman. Iain is a keen scrambler and has just released his book 'Highland Scrambles North' for the Scottish Mounteneering Club (...... available from every good bookshop! - ISBN 0-907521-88-6). Iain leads most of our Moderate trips and his good humour and entertaining stories make him a popular guide. His favourite Highland areas to lead are the Outer Hebrides and the far northwest.
Iain Davidson Iain is leading for NWF as well as involved in the research and marketing for the company. Iain is a registered European Mountain Leader, and a qualified Instructor in the new sport of Nordic Walking. With his extensive knowledge of the flora, fauna and history he is your guide for our Moderate grade holidays but with his extensive mountain experience and top class navigation skills don't be surprised to see him on the big hills as well! His favourite areas are Sutherland, Skye and the Islands.
