Green Ethics

Living in the footprints of our past and thinking about the future.....

Since our first trip in 1986 the protection of our rare and vulnerable North Atlantic wild land has been crucial to all of us at NWF. As one of the principal walking holiday organisers in Scotland we have a reputation for thinking for the long term. Our leaders have an enviable knowledge and understanding of our unique local plants, geology and wildlife and, living (most of their time) in the local communities; they take an active role in conserving this spectacular natural wealth for future generations. In our office we have a policy of minimising waste and energy as well as using recycled paper whenever possible.

Local support

A key NWF policy is to support our local, rural communities. Over the years we have built excellent relationships with accommodation providers, restaurant owners, boatmen, crafts people, crofters and estates. Since our first trips they have all assisted us by creating outstanding holidays. We try to ensure that much of the money spent by us, or by our clients, helps support these people who guarantee to provide our clients with the best Highland experience.

CO2 Footprint

Our walking holidays are very ‘green’ from nature, but we acknowledge that travelling by plane or car to the starting point of your holiday is not. Therefore we make our holiday starting points reachable by train wherever possible. If rail travel - the most environmentally friendly way of getting to and from your holiday - is not an option, you may   instead like to consider reducing your environmental footprint by offsetting your carbon emissions. To do so we have teamed up with Climate Care. This service offers you the opportunity to offset the CO2 emissions from your flight or car journey through support for their projects based around renewable energy, improving energy efficiency and reforestation.

How you can offset your travel emissions

At North-West Frontiers, we offset the emissions of the mini-busses used for our trips during the season with a financial contribution to Climate Care. To neutralize the impact of your own return flight or car journey (within the UK) you can use our ‘opt-in option’ to pay a contribution. The amounts set are just £3 per person for flying and £2 per car, which you find on your invoice. For more information or if you are traveling from overseas we kindly ask you to visit the Climate Care website at www.climatecare.org.

We aim to run an innovative, exciting and sustainable business in one of the most forward thinking and sustainable regions of Europe. We hope our ethics are reflected in our people. We don’t make a song and dance about our green credentials (as some other operators like to do), we like our actions to speak louder than words.
