We climb Munros and Corbetts with 3000 to 5000 feet (900-1500 m) of ascent per day. On some days we will be walking for more than 8 hours. Steep ascents and descents, exposed ground and some scrambling may be involved. You need to be very fit and must have a good head for heights. Regular mountain-walking experience, preferably in Scotland, is a must for full enjoyment.
If you would prefer more Moderate or Intermediate graded walking, see our other holidays.
The group leaders all have a minimum qualification of the Scottish Mountain Leader Training Board summer award. The mountains we climb will depend upon the leader's assessment of factors that include the weather, group fitness and deer stalking restrictions.

Moidart Corbetts
Sir Hugh Munro famously listed only those mountains attaining 3000 feet or more. But it would be folly to discount the many wild and beautiful hills and mountains that fall short of Munro’s magic number and to miss the challenge they offer. Our Moidart trip will give Munro’s ‘unlisted’ mountains the respect they deserve as we focus on climbing their pathless terrain at Strenuous grade. We may visit the odd Munro, but the emphasis here is to enjoy the finest mountains irrespective of height.
Above the deep trench of Loch Shiel, steeped in Jacobite history, rise two groups of sheer, rocky hills which include Sgurr Guibhsachan, one of the very finest hills in the West. The extremely remote Stob a'Bhealach an Sgriodain and Sgurr Dhomhnuill are situated deep within Ardgour and, still further west, at the head of Loch Moidart the Rois-bheinn Ridge provides a marvellous day's walking. Streap – one of the steepest of all the Scottish mountains – lies to the east, as do two Munros, Sgurr Thuilm and Sgurr nan Coireachan – both of which could be climbed as an easy day, because they have better paths!

| The approaches are fairly short, but we walk on rough and sometimes steep ground. These may not be the most famous peaks in Scotland, but they rank among the best.

Tomdoun & Glen Garry

Glen Garry is an ideal base from which to explore some of Scotland's most remote Munros between the Knoydart peninsula and Glen Shiel. The walking varies from the long days needed to climb Sgurr na Ciche and Sgurr Mor on the south side of Loch Quoich, to the relatively easy ascents of Gleoraich and Spidean Malaich. The fine Corbett of Sgurr nan Eugalt stands above Loch Hourn, as does the lone peak of Sgurr a’ Mhaoraich.
Away from the main thoroughfares, this area is often quiet when more popular peaks and glens are busy.

| There are a couple of very long days, but the walking is mainly on good stalking paths. We will find rough trackless ground on the Corbetts.

Accommodation: Tomdoun Hotel - This relaxing Victorian Sporting Lodge, overlooking the Upper Garry, offers a house party atmosphere with the finest of Scottish cuisine. All rooms, except single rooms, have en suite facilities.

Isle of Skye - Munros

Skye has been famous with mountaineers for more than a century and needs little introduction.
This is the most demanding holiday we offer. In six days’
walking we aim to climb all 12 of Skye’s Munros, including the Inaccessible Pinnacle. Walking will be over jagged, rough, exposed and steep rock. A lot of Scrambling will be involved
and a good head for heights is needed. Regular hill walking experience in Scotland is a must. Maximum group size is five.

This holiday is based on 'Guiding Only'. This means that you will have to arrange accommodation and transport yourself. However we will supply you with a list of possible accommodations when you make your booking. You need to make your own way to Skye and if you do not have your own car, you will be requested to contribute some money towards petrol costs.
Departure date: June 12, August 28
Cost: £325
Price includes: 6 days guided walking Sunday to Friday, no day off

Torridon Mountains

Here, we climb some of the most famous and spectacular hills in Scotland. Torridon’s mountains are sensational, rising straight up from the road and the walks start from just above sea level. During this fantastic week we traverse the sandstone pinnacles of Liathach and Beinn Alligin, the shattered quartzite crest of Beinn Eighe, and we climb Slioch, which towers dramatically above Loch Maree.
| Classic ridge walks. The walking days are not too long but the ascents on these big peaks are steep. Some easy scrambling is involved and a good head for heights is preferable.

Accommodation: We will stay in comfortable B&B accommodation in the pretty village of Shieldaig.

The wild, unspoilt countryside surrounding the lively 18th-century fishing village of Ullapool makes this an excellent centre from which to enjoy superb hill walking. On this trip we will focus on the Fannich Munros, the An Teallach ridge and the Beinn Dearg group. And, to make an interesting contrast, we will also climb some of the Assynt or Coigach hills to the north of Ullapool.
Please note that on both departures there is a chance of wintry conditions.

| The walking is mainly on good paths, some days quite long, serious scrambling on one day.

Accommodation*: The Riverside Hotel is a centrally located, comfortable, family-run hotel. In the evenings, the group usually meets for a meal at one of the friendly local pubs or restaurants in the village. (*During the September departure we will use quality B&B accommodation in Ullapool).

Ridges of the North-West Highlands

The aim of this trip is to traverse the most spectacular mountain ridges on mainland Scotland without venturing into rock-climbing terrain. Starting from Fort William, we will climb the Aonach Eagach Ridge in Glencoe, and the Carn Mor Dearg Arete on Ben Nevis. We then transfer to Kintail for an ascent of the Saddle by the Forcan Ridge. Weather permitting, a boat journey across Loch Houn will provide access to Ladhar Bheinn on Knoydart to make the classic circuit of Coire Dhorcail. (If we cannot cross the loch, an alternative walk on one of the Kintail ridges will be offered). The final two days are spent on Torridonian Sandstone, with the traverses of Liathach and An Teallach.

| Classic ridge walks. Long walking days on exposed ground, steep ascents and scrambling is involved. You need to have a good head for heights.

Accommodation: We spend two nights in Fort William, two nights in Dornie, 1 night in Shieldaig and, finally, 2 nights in Ullapool. Throughout the week we will stay in comfortable guesthouse and B&B accommodation.

Glen Affric

Strathfarrar, Affric and Cannich are among Scotland’s finest glens. The landscape is rich and varied with some lovely Scots pine forest at lower levels. This is a tremendous area for high-level walking. Here, we have a vast array of peaks to choose from including the great ridge, north of Glen Affric, which stretches from Mam Sodhail to Toll Creagach and the four Munros to the north of Glen Strathfarrar. Maoile Lunndaidh is reached from the Loch Monar dam and we walk the Glen Cannich mountains to the north of the Loch Mullardoch Dam.

| The long days and lots of ascents make this one of our tougher trips, but good paths lead you to the tops of these great, remote hills.
Accommodation: The Cnoc Hotel is a welcoming country house hotel nestling at the foot of Glen Strathfarrar. All rooms have private facilities, mostly en suite. The hotel provides an excellent table d’hôte menu.

Fisherfield Mountains - 3 nights camping break

The Fisherfield Forest was once known as the ‘Whitbread Wilderness’, after the formidable laird who determinately defended the area against both hillwalkers and road builders! On this trip we will endeavour to climb the six Munros in this vast and remote area – Ruadh Stac Mor, Beinn a’ Chlaidheimh, Sgurr Ban, Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair, Beinn Tarsuinn and the distant summit of A’ Mhaighdean – the most secluded Munro of all. We will be under canvas for three nights, based in Gleann na Muice. This means large backpacks need only be carried for six miles; a small price to pay given the chance to explore hill country of such outstanding beauty and grandeur.

Departure date: May 15, October 9
Cost: £180 (+ approx £30 for food)
Price includes: 3 nights camping/self-catering, and guiding throughout.

Start: Saturday – group members meet at 1200 in Dundonnell
Finish: Tuesday afternoon

If you would like to combine this trip with our Mullardoch camping trip, we can arrange accommodation for Tuesday night at the Backpackers hostel in Cannich for only £6.00.

Mullardoch Hills - 3 nights camping break

Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan stands at the far-off top of Glen Affric. A complicated mountain massif with the two other Munro summits, Mullach na Dheiragain and An Socach, that are too inconveniently placed to be climbed from the road end in one day. We will use a boat to take us up Loch Mullardoch then spend three nights camping on the North side of the mountain. This will also allow us to climb the awkwardly placed summit of Beinn Fhionnlaidh on the way out, when most of the food has been eaten and our sacks are lighter. In the event that bad weather prevents the journey by boat, the hills can also be approached from the south, in which case we will make camp in upper Glen Affric.

Departure date: May 19, October 13
Cost: £190 (+ approx £30 for food)
Price includes: 3 nights camping/self-catering, boat, and guiding throughout.

Start: Wednesday – group members meet at 1200 in Cannich
Finish: Saturday afternoon
