These two inner Hebridean Islands couldn't offer a greater contrast of landscapes and this fabulous new trip explores the best that these two islands have to offer.
Jura gives a real sense of remoteness and exploration. The quartzite peaks of the Paps are magnet for any hill walker but the island has far more to offer for those that are prepared to make the effort.
Islay in contrast is fertile and was once the principal island in the Hebrides although now it is more famed for its whisky production with numerous distilleries across the island. It is incredibly rich in bird life with over 180 recorded species and over a 100 breeding there.
On this holiday we will climb the Corbett Beinn an Oir (785 metres) the principal hill of the Paps of Jura and walk to the famed Corryreckan whirlpool which has sent shivers down the spine of mariners for centuries. The sight and sounds of the spiralling waters between Jura and Scarba is a wonderful experience, especially on a spring tide. Our exploration of the island continues with the raised beaches, caves, and rock arches of the west coast and if we are lucky we may catch sight of golden eagles.
On Islay we will hike out to the 200 meter high sea cliffs of Mull of Oa which are open to the stormy waters of the Atlantic. No visit to Islay would be complete without sampling the local whisky and after a shorter walk to the northern point of the island we will stop for a "wee dram" at one of the many distilleries on the island.
