This holiday on the Isle of Skye is the most demanding on our programme. In just six days’ walking we aim to climb all 11 Munros within the famous Cuillin ridge from Sgurr nan Eag, the first Munro on the southern section of the main ridge, to Sgurr a’ Mhadaidh, the most northerly one.
These world-famous peaks include Am Basteir, easily identifiable because of The Tooth which projects from its western end, and Sgurr nan Gillean, undeniably one of the Cuillin’s most striking peaks, not least for the four jagged towers thrusting skyward on its north ridge (the Pinnacle Ridge) which forms a dramatic eastern border to Coire a’ Bhasteir. For many people the highlight of the trip will be the ascent of the Inaccessible Pinnacle, the Munro summit that can only be reached by (easy) rock climbing.
At the same time as presenting something of a challenge, this holiday does offer a really marvellous opportunity to scale these tricky heights under the expert guidance of our leaders. Walking is over jagged, rough, exposed and steep rock but for this you will be rewarded with the experience of a lifetime. The Cuillin of Skye have won their claim to fame fair and square.
Accommodation There is a wide choice of accommodation in and near Carbost including hotel, B&B or bunkhouse. Full details are supplied on booking. Walking Grade We climb Munros and Corbetts with 3000 to 5000 feet (900-1500 m) of ascent per day. On some days we will be walking for more than 8 hours. Steep ascents and descents, exposed ground and some scrambling may be involved. You need to be very fit and must have a good head for heights. Regular mountain-walking experience, preferably in Scotland, is a must for full enjoyment. |
